About
Goal: To support the social and economic development of Uganda by facilitating local youth to work alongside International research students. Together they will enable the Ugandan agriculture sector to become more scientifically aware in order to tackle key sustainability challenges.
Why: Create an environment where research and knowledge transfer is conducted with practical experience in the field, exposure to industry and local culture, company based (relevant) research for Uganda and well distributed once completed.
How: The Marula Research Center facilitates the connection between International students, Ugandan recent graduates and companies based on the ground. Marula organizes all the logistics to ensure that the experience is positive and easy for all parties to ensure that parties rather spend their time on social impact, relevant research and dissemination of the research.
Results: The Model ensures that the newly acquired knowledge does not leave the country along with the international student. Local students have an opportunity to seek employment due to their newly acquired experience. International students have the unique opportunity to do research in a developing country with a local context and ensured social impact.

Oxfam & AFD: Gender Policies
On behalf of Academics for Development (AFD), three students from Utrecht, Grogingen and Wageningen University came to Uganda to conduct research for OXFAM Wereldwinkels. We linked them with a local student to facilitate this exchange of knowledge. Find out what they learn about gender policies in coffee cooperatives and what they thought of Uganda!
Marlous & Eugenie: Youth programs Research
Marlous Rottier (Wageningen Univeristy), and Eugenie Mol (Groningen University) came to Uganda for a period of 4 months and 1 months respectively. With local students, Okello and Martha, they conducted research on youth programs of coffee companies. Marlous shares their learnings, favorite moments and also the challenges they faced in the field.
